New Found Treasures
It is a new found treasures for me. My cousin Steve shared some treasures with me yesterday at our family fathering. Steve felt I was the one to hold onto family history that his father Lester had left him. I was totally taken aback. My paternal grandfather Christ’s hymnal in German. I did go online and the front of the hymnal is titled “God Protect You.” On the spine of the book is “Gesangbuck” which is the word hymnal. The book was published in 1870. My grandpa was born in 1890. The gold on the page edges is still evident.
I did get enough out of the second half of the book that is seems to also be used during various church services. The printing has a flourish about it that makes some of the letters difficult to determine.
A second item was given to me by Steve that holds my grandparents Christ and Laura’s certificates of baptisms, confirmations and their marriage. I have not as of yet opened that cardboard tube of history. I will admit, as it lies on my dining room table, it commands a lot of respect. I need to be in just the right state of mind to open it. As I said, treasures.
