Best Day Ever
We had the best day ever. My cousin Janet and her husband Dan from Foley, Mn. came for a visit today. It would be about a two hour drive. Dan drove Hwy #4 the entire way. He enjoys seeing what is along the two lane highways.
Janet’s dad was my Mom’s younger brother, Norman. Norman would come to the family gatherings playing his concertina. He played by ear and his laugh was as hearty as the tunes he played. When he and the kid’s grandma, Esther Schafer, on the mouth organ got together at our home, the picnics were robust.
Janet and Dan have been together about the same length of time as Dennis and I have been together . . . a good 20 plus years. Dennis and Dan have hit it off from the very beginning. Dan was a farmer, now retired, and also recently retired from hauling livestock. Dan does do the road grading for the township they live in.
Dan does tractor collecting and repairing and he was enthused to see Dennis’ Cub-Lo-Boy. The guys spent a lot of time in the patio porch visiting while us gals had the living room and sewing studio to visit in. I need to add that Dan loves cats. Dan loved the idea that Snuggles made himself right to home on his lap. He would have taken Snuggles home in a heartbeat.
Janet and I reminiscent about family and each of us enjoy stitching and crafting. The day went quickly. It was interesting as Dennis and I did a recap after they left this afternoon. Dan wanted to know if Dennis ate that good every day as I had prepared the noon meal for them. I had made potato salad and my all time favorite ring macaronis salad with the spam, peas, onions and celery. Too funny. Dan is a robust fellow and enjoys food.
A day such as today is the best ever. Family taking the time to keep up with each other is special. It will be our turn to travel north one day next year and return the great visit.
Life on Stauffer is sweet.
