Thank goodness for buttons!
Thank goodness for buttons – buttons that need and can be pushed on washing machines and dryers.
I had been having such a good run with arthritis this late fall and early winter. I got up and dressed and was ready for a good stitching day. I hadn’t been in the sewing studio since Sunday. About noon, things changed. I made sure after I had eggs and toast with Dennis, I would be able to take several Alieve Gel Caps. I don’t take them on an empty stomach. The arthritic pangs and twangs got the best of any creative energy I thought I was going to enjoy. It even felt good to take off my shoes and put some soft slippers on.
Today with several loads of laundry to do, I was content to fill the afternoon pushing those buttons to get the job done. I would have been up a creek if it would have meant getting the wringer washing machine set up with the two rinse tubs. From there it would have been loading up clotheslines in the basement or hauling them outside to freeze dry on the clothes lines. Those were the choices for many a week, many a month and many more years when Mom did the laundry. Mom suffered with arthritis more than I could ever imagine, or more than I ever have to date.
Not the day I had imagined, but a good end to the day to have an empty laundry basket in the bathroom. Today drives home the blessing of Kevin having insisted that the bathroom was redone about 15 years ago. It allowed for a stackable laundry unit.
Tonight it will feel good to curl up in a warm robe and take the positive approach: tomorrow the day will go better.
